The first homes to be built in Knowsley under the 2011-2015 National Affordable Housing Programme (NAHP) are now completed at Bracknell Avenue in Kirkby.
Knowsley Housing Trust, part of the First Ark Group, was awarded £5m from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) in the 2011/2015 National Affordable Housing Programme, which will be used to build 229 much-needed new homes.
The £737,000 Bracknell Avenue project, has provided six new four and three-bedroom homes for affordable rent and has been completed ahead of schedule – ready for families to move in just in time for Christmas.
Ian Thomson, KHT Executive Director of Assets, said: “We are very pleased to be able to deliver this first development in our NAHP programme ahead of schedule.
“We will continue to roll out the National Affordable Housing Programme in Knowsley and completing the first development is a significant milestone.
“This investment will offer hundreds of families the chance of a home and will help revitalise communities, providing a better housing offer for years to come.”
Christina Callaghan is one of the first tenants of Bracknell Avenue with her husband Paul, daughter Olivia, 15, and six-year-old son Gabriel.
Christina, 43, said:
“Our new home is fantastic. It is much more spacious than where we were previously living and a much quieter area.
“Moving in was even more special as we could enjoy Christmas together here in our new home.”
